Snooker is a sport going through change. In recent years we have seen other sports such as cricket introduce new formats in an attempt to attract a new audience and appeal to younger generations to get them into the sport. Snooker now faces a similar challenge. This week we will see the Shoot Out tournament which offers a different viewing experience due to its fast pace. This also dramatically changes how you should approach betting on this event. In this article we will look at how the tournament works and the things you can do to enjoy betting on the event responsibly.

The Format

The Shoot Out tournament is a series of one frame matches between some of the best players in snooker. Each match has a time limit of 10 minutes with players being allocated 15 seconds per shot during the first five minutes which reduces to ten seconds per shot for the final five minutes of the match.

Unlike snooker’s regular format, if a player commits a foul the opponent receives the white ball in hand. This means they can place the ball anywhere on the table which is a much greater advantage to the standard rules of the ball being placed in the designated area.

If a player fails to get a shot off within the allocated time their opponent will receive five points or the value of the ball they were playing. At the end of the 10 minutes the player with the most points is crowned victor. If the match is tied there is a shoot out on the blue ball.

Who was the 2021 Shoot Out Winner?

The 2021 tournament was won by Ryan Day who beat current world number one Mark Selby by 67 points to 24.
