In the recent years, boxing has seen a rise in its popularity. With audiences growing, so has the number of people having a bet on it. Understanding how boxing works and the types of markets available is the first stages in learning how to bet on boxing, as they are with any sport.

Popular Betting Markets

Outright Betting

This is the most common way to bet on boxing as you are simply choosing the boxer you think will win. These markets often provide very short odds on the favourites and that is something to bear in mind.

Over/Under Round Betting

This market requires you to bet on how long a fight will last. The winner of the fight is not important as you are only betting on the total number of rounds. For most 12 round fights this will be set at 6 rounds. You are then betting on whether a fight will finish in under 6 rounds or over.

Method of Victory

This is where you place a bet on how the fight will end. You will have plenty of options to choose from. You can bet on whether the fight will end via a knockout, points decision, or a technical knockout. A technical knock-out is where the fight is stopped by the referee or a boxer’s corner due to them being unable to defend themselves.

Round Betting

Similar to the over/under market, this bet is about the round in which the fight will end. You can be very specific with this bet and pick the exact round you think the fight will finish. The odds on that market are normally relatively high given the difficulty in predicting the outcome. You can also bet on groups of rounds you think the fight will end. This market will have lower odds but does give you more chance of being correct. For example, you might bet on the fight to end in rounds 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 or 10-12.

BettorMind Advice

Research – This is an important part of betting on any sport and particularly if you are new to it. If you are going to be having some bets on boxing, you should make sure you have done some research into the basics first. Things like, how many rounds in the fight, location and whether they are fighting for a title will all be important things to consider. The markets available on boxing fights will vary to those you may be used to using so be sure to check what you are betting on and what is required for your bet to be a winner.

Fight Location – As mentioned above this is something you need to consider and this is because boxing takes place all over the world. Some of the biggest fights take place in America. This means the fights are often do not start until 3 or 4am. This does not mean you can’t have a bet on these fights, but you need to plan accordingly and be aware of different fight times.

Boxing is a sport which continues to grow and can be very exciting to watch. Betting on it can add to that entertainment when done so responsibly. The advice in this article will give you a good base to build from as you develop your knowledge.
